TALLAHASSEE, FL — Governor Ron DeSantis today signed Executive Order 23-228, resulting in the suspension of Patty Lee Cummings from her role as a City Councilwoman of Cape Coral.
The suspension follows charges against Cummings on November 16, 2023. She faces one count of Fraudulent Application for License, classified as a third-degree felony under section 322.212(5) of the Florida Statutes. Additionally, Cummings is charged with two counts of False Swearing in Connection with or Arising out of Voting, also a third-degree felony, under section 104.011(1) of the Florida Statutes.
Cummings allegedly lied about her residency, according to officials.
The Executive Order underscores the administration’s stance on maintaining the integrity of public office and the legal process. The suspension is a standard procedure following such charges, allowing for due process while addressing the seriousness of the allegations.
